Police Officer Cross for Valor

The Police Officer Cross for Valor was established by the Board of Directors of the Long Beach Police Historical Society at their Annual Meeting on October 28, 1998. The medal was established to recognize and award acts of individual courage, moral or physical.

The inspiration for the Medal’s design was the United States Army’s Distinguished Service Cross. Designed by the Long Beach Police Historical Society the Medal presents a simple cross, known throughout military history as one of the most notable and sacred symbols of valor. The subdued hue of the cross signifies the solemn dignity of the courageous acts undertaken while the star at the intersection ornaments with another of valor’s most recognized awards. The Medal is suspended from a blue neck ribbon.

The protocol for the Award is as follows:

“The Police Officer Cross For Valor is to be awarded by the Executive Committee of the Long Beach Police Historical Society, to any sworn member of the Department, any Civilian member of the Department, any Firefighter, or any Public Safety employee, who has, over a course of time, or by any individual act, demonstrated, in the judgment of his or her peers, a conduct that has been of conspicuous valor, in the face of one or more tests of moral or physical courage.”
